Two steps forward, one step back

  1. Rebuild of the DeLorean front suspension – Check
  2. Cooling/Heating design and drawings done – Check
  3. Interrogating the Tesla steering wheel – No Check

The Tesla steering column has been a challenge.  It is a Mercedes Benz column – at least mechanically – with some apparent redesign of the inputs and communications.  The column appears to employ LIN (but this varies) and does output CAN.  A few input stalks output CAN when activated (steering wheel positioning) and Park, however all the other controls are mute.  So far as I can ascertain the steering column is either prompted by or activated by CAN signals from other Tesla systems.  But why?

Further reverse engineering will require going beyond the CAN interface and delving into the circuits.
